Upgrades and Firmware revisions we'd like for the UP300

Hi All, Anyone with an UP300, please add to this wishlist. We might not see any of this, but it's worth wishing for - :) Wishes don't have to be practical... It's just fun looking at such a cool product and thinking, "Wouldn't it be great if it could also do this?"... Feel free to disagree with my s...

Re: OK, who's got one and what do you think of it?

Now I've gotten a little further into it, I can offer a deeper perspective. First, the final negative. It needs wheels. Seriously. Four small casters as optional replacements for the rubber feet it sits on. The reason for this is that the model size makes it very difficult to sit on a desk, but the ...

Re: How much glue to use for ABS? Print methods?

OK, I just spoke to the seller ( who is a 3D printing expert ) and he said the glue was for PLA, not ABS... But... It works so well for ABS...

So I get the feeling no one else has tried this in an UP300... All I can say is that if the glue is quite thick, it works great !

Re: Ethernet connectivity and other problems.

OK, Ethernet problems were due to a fault in the printer. Spoke to the reseller and rectified the situation. Joseph, there's additional information there you probably need to be aware of, so I'll PM you. UpStudio can connect to the printer on Ethernet, however UpStudio shows it's connected on Wirele...

How much glue to use for ABS? Print methods?

Hi All, With your UP300's ( and I assume the UP box ) - How much glue should be used for reliable prints without rafts in ABS? I've been trying different amounts, and the answer seems to be "Quite a lot" and also "Put it on when the bed is warm/hot". Also, how many prints should you leave the glue o...

Re: Ethernet connectivity and other problems.

Thanks Joseph, If there's anything I can do to assist, please let me know. I'm not sure if there's any lights around the ethernet port at the back, but if there is, they aren't on when it's plugged in, so there might be separate faults at play here; 1) Ethernet not working at all. No lights, no carr...

Re: Ethernet connectivity and other problems.

OK, two ethernet cables ( and both tested with a cable tester and another device ) - Tested on both a 1Gbps and 100 Mbps switch...

The end result is that the LAN does not work under Touchscreen 1.3.14.

Tiertime, this is a major fault. Can you please advise on what to do?

Thanks

Re: OK, who's got one and what do you think of it?

Add one more major fault, making me wonder if Tiertime knows what a Beta program is... Ethernet socket tab is one the inside. So once it's plugged it, there's no way to get it out again, without removing the entire printer ( to gain access ) and then sliding something behind the tab to press it whil...

Re: OK, who's got one and what do you think of it?

Happy to help - There's one other negative I should point out, one that Tiertime can't fix on this model - The power switch is in the recessed cable area. Think about this carefully. The power switch is at the back of a 40Kg machine, that is too big for most desks, and looks designed to fit on most ...

Ethernet connectivity and other problems.

Hi All, Has anyone gotten the Ethernet or Wifi connectivity to work ( ie, to connect to the printer from UpStudio) ? Or has anyone gotten the Ethernet Connection icon to appear under Touchpanel 1.3.14? Also, has anyone been able to manually load a file from the USB stick under Touchpanel 1.3.14? (De...

Re: OK, who's got one and what do you think of it?

My first thought is that it's still very primitive in terms of support. The fan holding bracket on the feed servo is way too thin ( mine was broken on delivery ) and the instructions are less helpful than they should be given that the software is way too automated and as a result, I couldn't use the...

Is there a timeline for upgrades?

Well, so far, I think my UP300 is due Monday. I've had a mini since they were launched, and now I've moved up. I heard that they were more solidly built and better featured, so I waited for the 300 over the box. Tiertime was pretty good supporting the older model and I'm hoping that will continue, a...

Hybrid Petrol/Electric bicycle generator.

Hi All, I guess news of this one is getting around, so thought I'd introduce it to my home community. Entirely printed on an UP Mini, this hybrid petrol-electric bicycle actually gets me in to work daily. A lot of challenges making ABS parts strong enough to work reliably within the internals of a g...

LoL! Given how quickly I tried that, I'm not surprised someone beat me to it - :) What temp do you set yours to when doing that?

Airbrushing out the plastic defects at 260 degrees.

Hi All, Something strange I just discovered, which is going to change my prints forever... you know that "white" looking shade the plastic goes where it's been stressed? Like when I've removed the supports or when I cut parts out - you get that piece of plastic ( or entire surfaces ! ) that goes a l...

Re: Autocad and the UP

Is it about 3.14 times larger? Could be the difference between inches and mm. Try to export your stl in mm. 3.14 is pi - 25.4 is Inches to mm. I use CorelCAD ( Autocad clone ) and it works perfectly - just make sure what you export is exactly the size of the UP print area, has no negative space/dim...

[FEATURE REQUEST] - Change default directory.

Any way to change the default directory permanently? I'm using Windows 10 preview and it always defaults to Microsoft Cloud documents and is a pain every time I try to load a new model - Having it remember the last directory I loaded a model from, or having a default root directory that I can change...

Re: Windows 8.1

I've been using the UP software with 8.1 for some time - It does have some support for 3D printing built in, but that pretty much sucks. I haven't checked it on the 10 preview machines yet, but everything else works, so I'm not expecting any issues. Installation isn't quite straightforward - a manua...

Re: Edges are being replicated on the surface of the prints

I'd go with ringing as well - Sometimes I filled the edges as it seems to reduce the severity of the ringing - but generally it's just a visual blemish that I have to deal with - And while it does affect the surface, it's usually a pretty slight imperfection - Ringing occurs due to elasticity within...

Re: lifting at the corners

I had lots of lifting problems and mostly ignored it - but then calibrated my raft accurately and haven't had issues since. Anyway, I find if the raft is solid, it doesn't lift. Perhaps raise your platform a bit so it pushes plastic into the holes on the raft? You will have to cut it off the raft, b...
