Re: Improvements I've made in the last year

At risk of derailing the thread... Eddie & others, keep in mind that when you're using coloured plastic or non-OEM plastic you usually have to regularly clean your nozzle. I was trialling coloured plastics and found that I had to clean out the nozzle every week or so. Also be wary of PLA, as acetone...

Re: X-Axis alignment is off

You really need the new mount I designed, it features a locating rib to keep the extruder from "swaying" and I use a longer screw to get full engagement with the heat-sink. Sorry for the out of focus images, I was really tired and not paying attention. I'm waiting for you to send me one ;) *wink wi...

Re: Improvements I've made in the last year

Actually I mentioned previously that the part is a pp3dp part that I was trialing. I played no role in its design so can not take any credit there. I will be designing my own printable extruder housing/wind barrier etc later though.. Cut and paste from another thread, the new part is available for d...

Re: X-Axis alignment is off

Funnily enough I just had the same problem overnight while doing a long print on 'normal' . Woke up to see that the print was offset at around the raft height (5mm) and my extruder was loose. So I will listen to my own advice and tighten the screw back ;)

Re: X-Axis alignment is off

Your extruder is not screwed on properly.

If you look, you'll probably find that it has 'swayed' to a side.

Screw it down properly.

Up Quality Improvements over the past year

Just found a random piece I printed over a year ago that was similar to a piece I was printing yesterday/today.

A comparison shot :-

Boy has there been an improvement ;) Either that or I was just a newbie right at the start.

Re: PP3DP Store Registration - No Australia?

So, I went in to try and register at the store. When placing my address details, I came upon a country list that didn't include Australia. What's going on? Lol. As we have the exclusive distributor in your country, please contact him for your order. Here is the detailed info: 3D Printing Systems Au...

Some things from the early days :-

Things have improved significantly since then and I've been able to print finer models. I've got some prints that just came out from the printer now, I'll try take a pic of them soon...

Re: Printing with minimal "spaghetti" from support material?

I'm having really good success with the new modified 'wind barrier' from pp3dp that I'm trialling. It fixes the 'underside' burning issue and reduces warp and the most noticeable thing is the support material comes right off!!! Weee... more to report later :)

Re: Platform heater failed--any workarounds while I wait for

Mine just came loose after returning from holiday to the dreaded 'platform too hot'. Its my fault though, the supplier already sent me a replacement but I haven't replaced it yet ;)

I've had that problem once...

I think we need to petition the 'extruder stepper too hot' problem to pp3dp!

Re: PLA tips anyone?

I'm assuming that most of the heat in the cool section is coming from the hot block, and not from the operation of the stepper motor itself. Stepper runs hot on the new motherboards, not from the heater itself. I used to have an early motherboard (first 100?) and only recently upgraded. Everything ...

Re: Accuracy ?

The outside dimension variations seem reasonable considering the technology. But, I'm concerned about the inside dimensions being too small by over 0.4mm in some cases. Is this normal? If I need accurate holes do I need to assume I'll always need to ream them out after printing? Dale Hi Dale, A num...

Re: PLA tips anyone?

I got a piece of glass to print on, and the PLA definitely adheres better to that than the painter's tape or the perfboard. The problem I'm having now is the filament randomly stops extruding. Sometimes after just a few seconds, sometimes after several minutes. Each time I can get it to work again ...

Re: Upgrade for older printers!!

Re-Summarize :- The power switch is cool. The front switch initializes or 'sleeps' the printer. It doesn't heat up the platform, nor does it switch off the stepper motor power supply [feature request!]. These buttons are REALLY handy. I've noticed no improvements in printing quality. I've noticed th...

Re: PLA tips anyone?

I've usually used fine, 0.2mm for a lovely criss-cross pattern in clear PLA when printed on kapton. For 'clear' settings, it is best to use thicker layers. More layers usually means more optical refraction.

I've been unable to print PLA since the upgrade though.

Re: one-sided warping

Check to see if there is more gap between the print head and the right side of the platform than there is at the center or left side. If the print head isn't at the same height all over the platform, you can experience lifting. Yup that's lifting. Level your platform or make the gap a little bit sm...
