Re: The rabbit on Makerbot

Edward, I had the same reaction, and found the answer (you need to start reading the makerbot group,) if I understand the post right, it was actually a red rabbit which had been spraypainted white, because the spraypaint made it photograph / look good. The rabbit in the picture seems rougher than yo...

Re: Printer problem - heated build platform

Martijn, THAT sounds like a tech-support issue, thanksfully so far my experience say they are very responsive about that, remember the weekend started in China Thursday night, so you should shoot them a email and they should be back sometime Sunday evening US time. One of the GREAT tings about the U...

Re: Blue Masking Tape from 3M for build platform

Whystler, It seems to work pretty well, the build-platform is pretty hot and the tape tend to become bumpy after a couple of prints, but it is very easy to replace and I have not gotten stuck (can't release object) yet... well yet that is ha ha. Actually, I realized that the bumpiness is because the...

Blue Masking Tape from 3M for build platform

This have been mentioned a few times, and I used to use 3M blue low-tack masking tape on my MakerBot heater build platform. http://www.bophoto.com/dpreview/2010-09-21-bluetape-1.jpg http://www.bophoto.com/dpreview/2010-09-21-bluetape-2.jpg I just finished the second print of two items on blue-tape, ...

Re: A tree relief

Whystler, Simply awesome, both the carving design and how it turned out, I was tripping on the long dark line in the big print, the imperfection make it perfect, its like a little crack in actual carved wood. Printing vertically worked great... I did a couple of huge prints on the MakerBot and made ...

Re: UP! build quality vs BFB3000

BFB3000 is more related to the Meldel and Makerbot line of design philosophy, the UP! use real linear bearings and it makes a HUGE difference.!
Worse, when I was thinking about getting the BFB3000, they explained to me that it use Skeinforge...

Mine did stick a little but it did go away and it never caused skipping...

This is great... now we can make a project to take your printer apart and find what is sticking.. I have been wanting a excuse for cracking one open.

Re: What Not To Say

Glad it did go through.

Im thinking pretty soon we ought to have a UP! print fest in Los Angeles, we have had MakerBot build events before, but I guess a UP event would be more of a print thing, as the printer already works out of the box . :D

Re: 3D CAD software?

Chris, Not really, you just goes to file / Export, the files print beautifully. One thing to be aware about is to merge all elements of the object before exporting as it print better that way, so I typically merge everything and save it as "object - FLAT" so I will know, next time I want to edit I g...

Re: MakerBot launches Cyclops 3D scanner kit

I tried Blender for modeling and simply had to give up... I studied art, not programming, and while I have huge respect for those who model in Blender, it is far beyond me. I could probably learn how to do this, but why.? Im a photographer and one of those who don't really care what camera as long a...

Re: Parts not sticking to platform properly

Olaf, What Edward said, But also, try to add a bit to the calibration height of your nozzle, objective is to bring the platform up a bit higher to mush it down.. warning, musing down also means it sticks better, but sticking is probably not your problem right now. Im not talking big changes but mayb...

The little side app for merging multiple scans is worth a lot. as merging is the only way to get a complete object.

Re: Makerbot launches Automated Build Platform (feat Whystle

Whystler, this have village written all over it. The system is cool, but the interface is still skeinforge... and keep in mind that a "loaded" makerbot pushes the same $1500 as a UP printer, not counting the assembly. Im waiting for Darkhouse to whip up a serial solution for me. Economically speakin...
