Re: Up Mini Mainboard Cooler Mod

Nice work. Glad it has worked for you and great work finding the fan header. Much easier than an external supply

If anyone wants external fan cowls to suit diferent sized fans I can quickley knock them up in cad an post either here or on thingiverse.

Re: Bottom surface not closed - Bug?

You do need to be a little more obsessive with getting the bed flat. I also use glass plate under the kapton but anything equally flat will do - not perfboard which warps a little as it heats. I actually use glass because it makes a universal bed for me - ABS on one side covered with kapton and PLA...

Re: Bottom surface not closed - Bug?

Did you ever find a solution to the problem? I find the bottom surfaces are never as good at the top and a curved base is even worse needing to be filled with an abs slurry Thanks Because your bottom surface need to be printed so that it will break away from the raft it will always be different. If...

Re: Ripples in Print

Thanks for the replies guys Pleppik , my prints are being done in fine mode and unfortunately the ripples are still there. Drew , checked over the mounts this morning and there certainly is play in the extruder but is seems to be more from bearing clearance in the lower right bearing causing the hea...

Ripples in Print

I have noticed that I get ripples in my prints where the extruder as gone around a hole or a sharp edge. I am using a non genuine Premium ABS and I think I am extruding at around 235ºc (i have a 12 step, 5º temp mod). I calibrated the table and cleaned the nozzle so that is covered. I have checked t...

Re: slanted prints (me too)

looks to my like it is loosing steps from a stiff spot in one of the axis's. Have you dropped power off, and manually moved each axis to check for this. Taking off the belts will be even better as there will be no friction from the stepper motors masking tight spots.

Re: A challenge to all you smart people.

You could always mount a "Peltier" cooler to the side of the stepper. Should work pretty well to keep it cool and you could also mount a small heatsink to the hot side of the cooler to improve the efficiency, although not needed. You mean like I said on the 3 other recent threads on that subject? :...

I don't think that there is much that can be done to the stepper since...

Also if you are in Australia, "Ocean Controls" is a great source for steppers, servo's, drivers etc.

Re: Extrude problem clunk clunk clunk clunk

The clunk is the stepper loosing steps which means something in that area is too stiff/blocked etc so like other have said run is without filament and see if it still clunks. In the maintenance window watch the printhead temperature when extruding or withdrawing. It should reach 260 before beeping a...

Re: 3 New Printer from Makerbot

It does seem odd that none of them support ABS yet. They are definitely going for the fancy gimmicks though like on board camera, live feed etc which will appeal to many.

Re: Up Mini Mainboard Cooler Mod

Meant to say also in the post above that the inner cowlings sit against the rear cover creating a seal of sorts so the cool air being blown in doesn't cool the printing chamber. I am looking at a flexible seal on the side cutout where the table heater and stepper wire loom exits but I still need to ...

Re: Whats your answer to the Printed Gun Question?

I make knives as another hobby and the first thing people say to me is "who are you trying to kill". They never see the practicality of a knife or understand the satisfaction of creating something with your hands. Why would we be bothered to make a gun unless is were for a prop. A media storm in a t...

Up Mini Mainboard Cooler Mod

I thought I would share this mod and hopefully some of you may find it useful Given that I am about to mod the perf board to 80ºc and given how warm the cabinet already becomes I thought it would be a good idea to cool the mainboard and CPU to reduce the stress and increase their life. So the mod I ...

Hi From Queensland Australia

Well my Up mini had been sitting ia box for months as I had intended to sell it (came as a bonus with autodesk Inventor 2014) but over xmas though, stuff it, lets see what is can do. Well I must say the results have been fantastic. I have printed figurines for the kids, parts for mountain bike light...
