Re: In the market for another 3d printer

I was looking the the Makergear M2 before I bought my used Up Plus. The construction looks great, but is $1400 if bought as a kit.

Re: Feeder gear cover bearing

Once know size, the RC Hobby places sell too! Online Helidirect is one that does on the East Coast.
Boca Bearings sells extremely high end ceramic and ceramic / steel hybrid bearings.
I think I purchased my used Printer from Hearbob!
It is still doing fine.

Re: Platform is a little flimsy

Yes, Mic6 Alum is cast and ground. It's more thermally stable than rolled 6061-t6 sheet stock, more expensive too! Also called Jig Plate by old timers, ha ha not me. But will be 54 on Halloween ! It is manufactured for fixtures and tooling plates, or anything else that needs a nice flat precision pl...

Re: Platform is a little flimsy

Yes the first thing I did was remove the platform and check it for flatness. It was not as flat as should be. I checked with a precision straight edge and was no need to check on my surface plate. The Mic 6 Alloy is Blanchard ground and very flat. When placed on my surface plate it would stick there...

Re: Platform is a little flimsy

Thanks for your input on this matter, and all over the board.
Yes it does seem to work quite well even though not so stiff.
I use .090" thick G-10 plates and glue stick and has worked well.
Once cooled you can usually just pick the part from the plate.
Since was just scrap at the shop it's free.

Platform is a little flimsy

While it prints well, the platform could be so much better. The X axis is not very ridged. The sheet metal coming off the Z rail guide could be of heavier gage. The X axis it's self is stiff, but what it's mounted to is not! I have not been able to tell how much slop is in the linear guide its self,...

Re: platform heater repair

Older or newer version I guess does not really matter to me. At least the connector on the end of the long version of heater wire showed no signs of over heating. I think my printer is about a year old, I purchased used. Its had about 9 kg plastic through it according to the software. The previous o...

Re: Heat shrink wire tubing

Hello all ! I know a little of the grid but I'm also into RC Helicopters and other things that fly or move.
The RC Shops carry it too!
Helidirect is on the East Coast, GrandRC West Coast and Horizon Hobby is in the middle.
There is always Ebay and Helidirect is on there too!

Re: platform heater repair

After reading this thread I decided to take mine apart last night.
To my surprise it did not look like this, no board! It had the long wire heater and thermocouple installed.
I bought it used, so the previous owner must have replaced.
Do newer units come like this now?

Original Octave switch works well, and also have the Digital Controller by ArTaylor.co.uk.
It's nice but expensive!

I seriously doubt it! Would have to scan print or redraw.
I can read and write almost any solid file format but not that format.

Re: Windows 8.1

It should be fine with 8.1 and I just done the 8.0 to 8.1 update the day it became available. You have to allow computer to install unsigned drivers, reboot, then find the printer in the device manager. Update the printer driver by pointing to the Driver folder within the the Up installation folder....

Re: New user having problem with Windows 8

Edward is correct! This must be done every time powered up or reset during a print. If you notice the stepper motors are not powered when first turn on, the tables can be moved by hand.
Once initialized the all axis power up and move until trips the home switches and sets reference point.

Maryland --- Bought used Up Plus in Aug 2013

Hi to all! I am a Machinist of 30 years, a gadget junkie and computer nut. The UP Plus has been great, especially for a $800 purchase. It was lightly used and in like new shape. I program and operate CNC Mills for a living, and managed to actually print a few useful things for my own use. I use it a...

Read my reply to another post, or search site for Windows 8 & 8.1 unsigned driver install mode. I had problems with this too a few months ago, until I searched for solution. Yes the UP Software works fine on Windows 8.0 and 8.1 it just takes a work around to install the unsigned driver for the UP Pr...

A am always creating STL files in inches, and binary format. In UP software size of object I always import is always in mm.
Yes 1.0 can be 1 inch, mm or mile, unless know what unit intended.
Good luck !

Re: [BUG REPORT] loading stl wrong size

I have never had a stl import the wrong size, and tried many.
I'm a Machinist and use GibbsCam to design and export stl files.
For what it's worth.
